American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina receives wide support in Washington, DC

Leaders of American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AUBiH) have completed their one-week working visit to Washington, DC. During their visit they met with Stuart Jones, Deputy Assistant Secretary; Congresswoman Louis Slaughter (D-NY), Congressman Michael Turner (R-OH); Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA); Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ); Senior staffers from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (Senators Kerry and Lugar); Staffers from Senator Gillibrand’s (D-NY) office; Staffers from Senator Durbin’s (D-IL) office; Representatives of the Helsinki Commission; several Staffers on the House of Representatives side; and representatives from the SAIS (School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins), among others. The purpose of the visit was to introduce AUBiH and importance of the work this institution is doing in Bosnia and Herzegovina. AUBiH received undivided support for its work. Members of the US Congress and their Staffers were very impressed with AUBiH’s success in such a short time and promised their continued support.

“Education is the key. You are doing small but very important steps for the long-term stability of the region. Please continue, you have our full support.” were the words that we heard in almost all of our meetings”, said Denis Prcić, Chairman of the AUBiH Board of Trustees.

With this visit, AUBiH continues its close relationship with policy makers in Washington, DC, with several US Government representatives having already visited the University, met with students and sent their support letters.
